BRANDON, FL — Brandon residents are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Carey Family Boys & Girls Club on Friday, March 29.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. at 510 E. Sadie St. in Sadie Park.
The new location will serve youth ages 5-18, and be able to accommodate up to 125 children and teens.
Located at the former Brandon Community Center, the new club is situated between Mann Middle School and Yates Elementary School, allowing school children to walk to the club. Youth will also have access to a sand volleyball court, a baseball field, a playground and walking trails at the park.
"The relocation and expansion of the Carey Family Boys & Girls Club will allow for dozens of children and teens to have a safe place to go for learning and fun," said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister who will be among the county leaders attending the grand opening. "
Previously located at 213 N. Knights Ave., Brandon, the club is named for longtime Brandon cattle rancher Bill Carey who died in 1997. Carey’s wife, Trudy, and their three children continue to be active in supporting and fundraising for the club.
Carey’s daughter, Amy Carey Lee, said the club is partnering with the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, which will provide an on-site deputy at the club.
Friday’s grand opening celebration will include tours of the facility, refreshments and raffle drawings for hotel stays in Orlando, Disney tickets and Rays tickets.
